The brilliant mathematician Katherine Johnson, who was a crucial figure in America's space program, has died at the age of 101. Johnson spent more than three decades at NASA, working on such landmark moments as Alan Shepard's 1961 Freedom 7 mission (America's first human spaceflight) and John Glenn's 1962 orbit around the Earth. It was that flight that Glenn famously told engineers to "get the girl," referring to Johnson, to run the computer equations by hand. “If she says they’re good,’” Johnson remembered Glenn saying, “then I’m ready to go.” According to NASA, "when asked to name her greatest contribution to space exploration, Katherine Johnson talks about the calculations that helped synch Project Apollo’s Lunar Lander with the moon-orbiting Command and Service Module."
The world learned more about Johnson's pivotal role in our nation's history in the 2016 Oscar-nominated film, "Hidden Figures." Actress Taraji P. Henson portrayed Johnson in the film. In 2015, President Barack Obama awarded Johnson the Presidential Medal of Freedom

Eclipse Technique w Stampin' Up!.
February 26, 2020
Janie's email to me last week & the Eclipse Technique.....
Finally, almost 2 months later my creativity came back. I ran out of cards to send and needed a new set of 12 or more.
I was working with Peaceful Poppy stamp set and die without success. I didn’t really like anything I saw online.
Anyway, after spending 15 minutes in my craft room this morning I came up with 2 new designs. One is an eclipse card and the other uses the letter from the eclipse card. Easy and doesn’t take too long...2 cards in the time it takes to do one! Win...win!
It uses Peaceful Poppy stamp set, the beautiful matching DSP, dies and lots of Dimensionals for the raised HUGS card (16 reg and 17 small Dimensionals).
Hope you like them!
Taped the dies together makes it easier to get the straight line cut with proper spacing and move on to cut the next card.
Used LOTS of Dimensionals.
JANIE ~ THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING ~ GREAT CARD/INFORMATION!
Tuesday Project Sheet
February 25, 2020
You might assume that I choose this card because of the cute little kitty who is watching the bird on the garden gate. But, it so happens this card can be a 3-D card with the garden gate swinging open at will ~ so clever! You can find this stamp set, GRACE'S GARDEN, bundled with the GARDEN GATEWAY DIES on page 13 in Stampin' Up!'s Spring Mini Catalog. The Project Sheet will print out on the front and back of your sheet of paper so be sure you get all the directions! Enjoy!
Where is that paper?
February 24, 2020
That was a question yesterday as several stampers looked at the cards displayed on my boards (really, just cork squares on closet doors). The answer was that the designer series paper is really really easy to OVERLOOK on the top of page 55 in the Spring Catalog. It is called BEST DRESSED 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper. I dismissed it myself thinking that it was all about purses, shoes and perfume ~ not so, the flip side of the paper is lovely ~ especially since our daffodils are in bloom and some of our trees have already sprouted pretty pink blossoms ~ have you noticed? You will love the paper! See it all in the video below and check out the card (using the Positive Thoughts stamp set on page 23) that started the conversation...........
Busy day in the studio.......
February 23, 2020
It was a busy afternoon today ~ eight stampers enjoying the wonderful products in the PEACEFUL POPPIES SUITE on page 24, 25, 26 and 27 in Stampin' Up!'s Spring Catalog. Each stamper made five different cards and used the Peaceful Poppies Elements ~ die cut accents designed to compliment the stamps and dies.
Busy class members ~ Dixie, Marti, Katy, Rusty, Lynne and Melissa.
Lynne and Katy concentrating/creating.
Stampin' Up!'s Mountain Air Bundle
February 22, 2020
Reverse stamping is relatively new to all of us. Stampin' Up! introduced it recently and uses it in a unique way in the Mountain Air Bundle that you can find on page 52 and 53 in the January -June Mini Catalog (don't have yours ~ let me know ~ I have one for you). These specialized photopolymer stamps can stamp using both sides. This video will show you the stamp set, dies and how they work together. If you would like to try these stamps yourself plan on joining me in March for my Mountain Air Class on Saturday, March 28, from 1 - 3 PM. Additional information coming soon. Enjoy the video!
COOKIES................
February 21, 2020
My sister, Sarah Ellen, made the cookies, below, for my friends who visited the Cat/Art Studio this month. The cookies turned out beautiful and delicious with many positive comments all month long. The comment I heard most often was that they were too pretty to eat but that didn't stop everyone from enjoying every last crumb. Wednesday night, Gigi got so excited about the cookies that she had to know more so here is some basic information about Fancy Flours ~
Fancy Flours is a unique, retail on-line baking supply business specializing in high quality, difficult to find products.
Gigi also asked for the recipe for the cookies. There is a link on the website to various recipes. The one that Sarah used for the cookies is the 'No Fail Sugar Cookie Recipe'. The website is amazing ~ so much information, so many products and great pictures! Enjoy!
