Background Brilliance Card 3

Background Brilliance, page 90 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog

This section of the new annual catalog (page 90-91) highlights background stamps and ways to use them. LEAF COLLECTION (#163610, $20) is shown full size with a sample using fussy cut pieces. My card uses clear embossing powder, this background stamp and four different colors of ink.

Supplies:

· Stamps ~ Leaf Collection (163610); Sweetly Scripted (163600)

· Cardstock – Basic White (159278); Shy Shamrock (163795); Granny Apple Green (146990)

· Ink ~ Shy Shamrock (163808); Old Olive (147090); Granny Apple Green (147095); Shaded Spruce (147088); Versamark (102283)

· Misc. – Multipurpose Liquid Glue (110755); Silicone Craft Sheet (127853); Blending Brushes (160518); Stampin’ Brayer (162936); Tear & Tape (154031); Basics Embossing Powder (165679, page 126 AC)

Measurements:

· Shy Shamrock base card: 5 ½” x 8 ½” scored at 4 ¼”

·  Granny Apple Green: 4” x 5 ¼”

· Basic White: 3 ¾” x 5” (card front), ¾” x 5” (sentiment), 4” x 5 ¼” (inside)

Instructions:

  1. Using the three Blending Brushes blend three colors (Granny Apple Green, Old Olive and Shy Shamrock) randomly covering the Basic White cardstock. (It looks messy but that’s ok.)

Background Brilliance SU Supplies 1

2. Ink the Leaf Collection stamp with Versamark and stamp over the top of the random green colors you have created.

3. Cover completely with clear embossing powder, shake off excess, heat to emboss the entire piece and let cool.

4. Brayer Shaded Spruce ink over the top of the embossed leaf pattern. Rub off excess ink with soft tissue or cloth.

5. Layer Granny Apple Green cardstock on base card. Add the embossed leaf piece using Tear & Tape because the paper may be bowed due to the heat.  Tear & Tape will hold all the edges in place.

6. Stamp sentiment on Basic White strip and adhere to the card with Tear & Tape.

Technique: Coloring with Markers

SU Markers Pic 1 (3)

Did you know what you can color directly onto your stamps with a marker? Today's tutorial shows you how to add additional color to a stamp to add variety. Remember to huff  because the marker ink may dry quickly as you are adding color.  'Huffing' on the stamp provides moisture and assures that all of your colors are bright!

Stampin’ Write dual-tipped markers have a broad tip for coloring and achieving unique color effects and a fine tip for writing. Our Stampin’ Write Markers Collection includes markers in all 40 of our core colors.  There are four 10-pack color assortments: Brights, Neutrals, Regals, and Subtles. We also have two 5-pack In Color markers.  Lots to choose from!

Sketched Butterfly w markers

 Stampin’ Up! Supplies:

· Stamps – Sketched Butterflies Bundle, page 68 in the annual catalog

· Cardstock –Basic White, Night of Navy, Cherry Cobbler

· Ink – Blueberry Bushel

· ACCESSORIES –Tinsel Gems Four Pack, Take Your Pick, Paper Trimmer, Bone Folder, Dimensionals, Mini Glue Dots, Stampin Cut & Emboss Machine, Eyelet 3D Embossing Folder, Stylish Shapes Dies, Boho Blue Marker, Cherry Cobbler Marker, Night of Navy Marker, Blueberry Bushel Marker, Rhinestone Basic Jewels and Mini Dimensionals.

Cutting & Scoring:

· Basic White – 8-½” x 5-½” scored 4” for card base, scrap paper for butterflies and die

· Night of Navy, – 4” x 5-¼” for layers

· Cherry Cobbler – 2-¼” x 5” for top layer

Instructions:

• Fold the Basic White in half and score with your bone folder

• Bring in the markers you want to use. Starting with the lightest, color butterflies with the side of the FLAIR tip. (I started with Boho Blue, Blueberry Bushel, Night of Navy, and Cherry Cobbler)

• Huff on the stamp to moisten it and stamp it on the scrap of Basic White cardstock.

• Clean the stamp with Simply Shammy and repeat the last 2 steps. (I created 3 butterflies.)

• Die cut the 3 butterflies

• Stamp sentiment in Blueberry Bushel and die cut with the banner from Stylish Shapes dies

• Place Night of Navy in Eyelet Embossing Folder and emboss it

• Adhere to the card base

• Add liquid glue to Cherry Cobbler layer and adhere to embossed cardstock.

• Add 2 mini Dimensionals to each butterfly.

• Adhere a butterfly towards the top and bottom. Place your banner where you want it on your card. (Don’t adhere the sentiment). Put your last butterfly where you want it and then adhere sentiment

• Add Rhinestone to the head of the butterfly and at the corners of the sentiment.

Tips:

o Bold stamps will show your markers coloring better

o On detailed stamps, make sure you cover every line on the stamp

o You can ink your stamp, stamp off, and then add markers to the stamp

o You don’t have to mix the markers! Example: color your flower with one color, the stem with another, and your leaves with another marker. This is a beautiful way to play with this technique

o You can mix the ink and the markers. Ink the flower and use markers on the stem, leaves, and ground

o With Photopolymer stamps, always use a cushion/piercing mat under it when you apply ink/marker to paper

o REMEMBER TO HUFF!
